Photo source: CPSCEpoch Everlasting Play of Pine Brook, N.J., is recalling about 10,000 Epoch Everlasting Play My First Activity Desk toys sold in the U.S. and Canada.
When the activity desks are attached to a crib, a protruding knob can become entangled with a child's clothing, posing an entanglement hazard.
In addition, the opening in the handle on the desks can pose a jaw entrapment hazard to children under 18 months.
While no incidents or injuries are reported in this case, injuries involving children’s products are clearly a matter of concern.
In 2020, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there were nearly 150,000 toy-related, emergency department-treated injuries, and nine deaths among children ages 14 and younger.
The CPSC also reports that in that same year, there were an estimated 44,600 emergency department-treated injuries associated with, but not necessarily caused by, nursery products among children younger than five years of age.
In August 2022, millions of MamaRoo and RockaRoo infant swings and rockers were recalled due to entanglement and strangulation hazards, with one death reported.
This recall involves the Kidoozie brand My First Activity Desk, a children’s toy that can be used in the crib, on a tabletop or on the floor.
The toy has adjustable crib straps, four removable legs and requires batteries, and was sold in white, with buttons of various shapes and sizes, It was marketed for children 12 months and older.
The model number and product name, “G02587 My First Activity Desk,” is located on the underside on the desk.
The activity toy, manufactured in China, was sold at Learning Express, Marshalls, and independent toy stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com and Walmart.com from January 2020, through July 2022, for about $30.
Consumers should immediately take the toys away from children, stop using them and contact Epoch Everlasting Play for a free replacement or a full refund.
The company will provide consumers with a pre-paid shipping label to return the recalled activity desk.
